The Wish Box

Ages 6-9
Issues: Emotional insecurity, separation, a need to be cared for and valued
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for children to express needs and hopes and recognize the one person(themselves) always available to them for meeting their needs
Materials: Brightly decorated box with a hinged lid, covered by a mirror on the inside, paper, and crayons

Procedure:
Encourage the children to draw a picture of a wish or hope that is important to them and place it in the Wish Box. Explain that if they take special care to look at the inside of the lid they will see a special person who will always be with them, while they think about ways to make the wish work out
